Local residents and visitors are being advised to prepare for temporary road closures this weekend, as the town prepares to host its largest mass participation sporting event — the CPM Thame 10k Road Race.
Set to take place on Sunday, 29th June, the popular annual race will see 1,000 runners take to the streets, starting from 9:00 a.m. at Lord Williams’s Upper School. The route winds through the heart of Thame, drawing runners, spectators, and volunteers from across the region.
In order to ensure the safety of all participants, organisers have confirmed two road closures during the morning:
- 8:55 – 9:15 a.m.: Oxford Road roundabout to the Rising Sun mini-roundabout (Southern Road)
- 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.: Rugby Club roundabout to the Chinnor Road roundabout (B4009)
Race Secretary Rod Lavers issued a statement encouraging motorists to plan alternative routes during the closure periods:
“We ask all residents and road users to please make alternative travel arrangements for the duration of the closures and pass the message on to friends and family. Our goal is to ensure everyone stays safe while keeping any disruption to a minimum.”
Signage has already been placed throughout the town and along the bypass to alert drivers. The CPM Thame 10k is a highlight in the town’s calendar, and the community is encouraged to come out and support the runners as they race through Thame.
