Following the hugely successful Duck Race held on the Jubilee weekend, Thame & District Round Table had the honour of presenting cheques to all of the local organisations that helped sell tickets.
The originally agreed plan was to share the proceeds 80:20 with the groups but, given the difficult few years experienced by everyone it was unanimously agreed by the members of Thame Round Table to give 100% of the funds to each group.
Steve Newbury, Chair of Thame & District Roundtable said “It was such a huge buzz to see everyone back in the field chasing the ducks and the infamous Captain Ducky down the River Thame that it made us all realise just how much we’ve missed running the event over the past few years and how much the organisations we help support have missed out on opportunities to raise funds, so it just felt right to hand over all of the proceeds to each group
In addition, we have also donated some extra funds to Oxfordshire Lowland Search and Rescue not only as a thank you for helping us with the event but also to express our gratitude for their commitment to our community.”
Overall, the donations total £4,878 all to support local causes which included: John Hampden School PTFA, Barley Hill School PTFA, The Friends of St Josephs, Lord William’s Parents Association, Thame Youth Projects, Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire, Thame Youth Memorial, Thame Girl Guiding, Thame Citizens Advice, Thame Royal Air Force Cadets, Haddenham Community Infant School PTA, Thame Choral Society and Thame Swimming Club.
Neil Shorter, Membership Secretary said “It’s not all just raising funds for charity, at it’s heart Thame Roundtable is a friendship organisation organising various fun excursions and activities for it’s members each month from Go-Karting to Archery, Kayaking to Ten-pin bowling, there may also be a few beers involved too!
We’re always on the lookout for new, community-minded, fun-loving individuals to join the club. If you are a man aged between 18 and 45 we’d love to hear from you and bring you along to an event to see what it’s all about.”
