Thame Town Council has lodged an official complaint to LINK after it was decided that Thame should have an Automated Deposit Service rather than a banking hub, following the closure of the last bank in the town.
The council appealed against the decision, but it was unsuccessful. We have therefore registered a complaint against the decision. We have submitted that, in its assessment, LINK used inaccurate or inappropriate figures, have not followed FCA guidelines, and have shown inconsistency in their approach.
This, coupled with overwhelming community support for a banking hub to serve Thame and its hinterland, show that the decision should be rescinded and a banking hub installed in the town.
Questions Raised About Marlow Hub
Marlow in Buckinghamshire is the latest town to have been granted a banking hub. It has a population of 14,770, only 1,497 more than Thame. Marlow also has a Nationwide Building Society and is less than 5 miles away from banks in High Wycombe, whereas Thame is nearly 10 miles away from the nearest bank in Aylesbury.
Marlow and seven other towns with hubs have been cited in the council's complaint as we continue to question why towns such as Marlow should be allocated a banking hub while Thame was allocated an ADS.
