A new defibrillator will be opened in Thame on Friday 24th February at 1.30pm. The defibrillator will be based at Racquets Fitness Centre.
This latest community defibrillator by Staying Alive Thame comes in addition to the defibrillators at Thame Barns Centre in Church Road, Scout HQ in Southern Road, Brothers Salon in Butter Market, the Masonic Lodge on the High Street, The Falcon pub in Thame Park Road, Sprinz and Nash Vets in Wellington Street, both Lord Williams’s Upper and Lower Schools, Thame Football Club in Meadow View Park and Lea Park.
A defibrillator as the name suggests stops fibrillation. When somebody suffers cardiac arrest, their heart can go into a quivering limbo. One of the most effective ways to get it going again is to use a powerful electric shock.
It works by using a high voltage to pass an electric current through the heart so that it is shocked into working normally again. The patient's heart receives roughly 300 joules of electrical energy which is about as much as a 100 watt incandescent lamp uses in three seconds.
Staying Alive Thame would like to invite the people of Thame to come and join them at the opening.
