New Community Speedwatch Group

19th February 2026

During 2024, following a consultation by Oxfordshire County Council and Thames Valley Police , a number of roads leading into Thame and within the town were changed to a 20 mph speed limit. Hopefully by now motorists will have seen the many signs on the roads, lampposts and enforcement signs at the start of each 20mph section, in addition to the bright yellow CSW (Community Speedwatch) signs.

During the end of 2025, like many other towns and villages in Oxfordshire, Thame Town Council have formed a Community Speedwatch Group made up of volunteers from the community to assist Thames Valley Police in monitoring motorists in the areas where the new limit applies.

Following online and practical training  the group have now started carrying out checks in various locations where it has been noted that the new limits are not being complied with.

So far Community Speedwatch have…

  • Completed 6 Speedwatch campaigns
  • Recorded 63 cars speeding over 20MPH
  • Sent 24 letters by Thames Valley Police
  • Recorded the fastest speed in a 20MPH zone was 45MPH

Hopefully this initiative will help to educate and make the roads in and around Thame safer.

For information on how you can volunteer, check out our new dedicated Community Speedwatch webpage.

Death Cafe @ Thame Barns Centre
You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
