COLLEAGUES from Specsavers in Thame recently visited Lord Williams’ School to showcase the diverse world of optics to students.
Apprentice, Lia Starodub and pre-registration optometrist, Annabel Thorndike, from the locally owned and run store on the High Street, attended the school's careers fair to highlight the variety of career pathways available within the industry.
As both Lia and Annabel are currently working toward their own qualifications, they were perfectly placed to share their real-world experiences and answer students’ questions about the industry. The visit aimed to show that a career in optics offers far more than just testing eyes, with job roles ranging from retail and laboratory work to dispensing roles and apprenticeships.
‘It was a pleasure to be invited to Lord Williams’ School,’ says Nishita Chauhan, store director at Specsavers Thame. ‘With so many career pathways within optics and audiology, which is also a service we offer in store, we’re really keen to inspire students to consider these roles. It was also a fantastic experience for Lia and Annabel to be able to share their own journeys.’
