Lidl Regional Head of Property: “We’re thrilled to reveal our plans for Lidl's first store in Thame”

23rd April 2025

Lidl has announced plans to open its first-ever store in Thame and is calling on local residents to share their views on the proposed development. The new store is set to be located on Aylesbury Road and represents a multi-million-pound investment in the town.

If approved, the store will create up to 40 new jobs, with employees benefiting from industry-leading pay. The development would mark a significant milestone for the fast-growing supermarket chain, which has been consistently named the UK’s fastest-growing bricks-and-mortar supermarket for over 18 months.

The proposed store will span 1,516 square metres and feature Lidl’s popular in-store bakery, its signature “Middle of Lidl” aisle, and customer toilets with baby changing facilities. Plans also include ample parking for cars and bicycles, as well as electric vehicle charging points, reflecting Lidl’s focus on sustainability and accessibility.

Kate Bleloch, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, expressed enthusiasm about the project:

“We’re thrilled to reveal our plans for Lidl’s very first store in Thame, located on Aylesbury Road. As we prepare our planning application for submission to Thame Town Council, we’re keen to hear from as many local residents as possible. If approved, this modern, state-of-the-art store will offer greater convenience to the community, saving customers a trip to Aylesbury for our high-quality, affordable products. We’re very much looking forward to engaging with the Thame community in the coming weeks.”

Residents are invited to submit feedback on the plans either online or via email at [email protected]. Lidl says community input will play a key role as it finalises its planning application for submission to Thame Town Council.

Lidl has operated in Great Britain for more than 30 years and is known for delivering a unique blend of quality and affordability. The proposed Thame store is part of the supermarket’s continued expansion across the country to meet growing demand from UK shoppers.
