There was high drama in Thame this afternoon as firefighters were called to The Spread Eagle Hotel to rescue a jackdaw trapped in netting on the roof – a scene that quickly caught the attention of everyone on the High Street.
The poor bird had been stuck all day, completely out of reach and visibly distressed. Thankfully, the amazing team from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service came to the rescue. With skill, care, and a good dose of bravery, the firefighter managed to cut the jackdaw free from the netting and gently pass it to Rachel from Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital, who was waiting below.

We’re delighted to say the bird is now in safe hands and being looked after at the centre. A huge thank you to Oxfordshire Fire Service and Tiggywinkles for their kindness, professionalism and quick response — true local heroes!
