A vacancy has arisen in the North Ward for Thame Town Council which is to be filled by Co-option. This means anyone who meets the criteria can apply to be a councillor on Thame Town Council. The existing councillors will consider the applications and choose the new Councillor at a Full Council meeting. The successful candidate would serve for the remaining term of office, until May 2023.
The Role
Town Councillors represent the people living in their local area at the closest level to the community. When decisions are made Councillors are there to put the views of the local people and have a duty to represent all local people and their interests.
Being available to the public and making people aware that you are a Councillor plays an important part in gaining the understanding of local views. Council and committee meetings are open to the public and every effort should be made to attract attendance from the public.
An effective councillor is not a soft option. It requires considerable skills and effort to achieve success. The reward is to see the benefit to the community through the policies and action of the council.

Who can be a Councillor on Thame Town Council?
- British or a citizen of the Commonwealth or European Union
- At least 18 years old
- Registered to vote in the area or have lived, worked or owned property there for at least 12 months before an election.

If you would like to apply to be a Town Councillor, please send a letter of application to the Town Clerk by Tuesday 17 May 2022. Applications will be considered at a special Full Council meeting on 24 May 2022.
