Thames Valley Police’s monthly newsletter has been released, details of which are below:
Priorities
Thame Neighbourhood Team continue to prioritise the following for attendance and crime prevention strategies; Burglary Dwelling, Rural Crime and Anti-social Behaviour. All crimes that fall under these sub categories will be treated as a priority, this will direct the patrol plan and locations where Thame Neighbourhood Team focus their time and policing support.
Burglary: Patrols are continuing throughout the local policing area to try and deter offenders and gather intelligence. Home security is the best way to reduce your chances of being burgled. A lot of burglaries are spur of the moment, carried out by opportunist thieves who don’t even have to use force – they get in through an open door, window or other easy point of entry and take their chances. Spending money on security measures can seem daunting but it’s a good investment. Look at your home through the eyes of a burglar! If you think your home security is poor so will the burglar. Are there places where they could break in without being seen? If you have forgotten your keys but can still get in so can a burglar! Anti-social behaviour (ASB): ASB is still a priority for the Thame neighbourhood team. We have been and will continue to conduct high visibility patrols through the town and in doing so have deterred ongoing problems. Drivers have been given section 59 warnings for using their vehicles in an anti-social manner and persons have been issued acceptable behaviour contracts to prevent further offences. Thame NHPT would urge members of the public to phone 101 if you are to witness any anti-social behaviour.
Rural crime: is a priority particularly around the Watlington area. Officers have been conducting regular high visibility patrols around the rural area and continue to run rural crime based operations. PCSO Ryan Dollery C7695 is the point of contact for our rural community, including local farmers and game keepers. To help tackle rural crime, there is a handy social media app which can be downloaded to different variations of smart phones, the app is called ‘Project Poacher’ and is free to download. https://basc.org.uk/game-and-gamekeeping/rural-crime/ . In light of these continuous patrols, offenders have been caught and ongoing investigations are being carried out in relation to offences.
Offenders brought to justice
• A male was arrested for five driving offences and hunting act offences after a short vehicle pursuit in the local area.
• Two Section 59 warnings were given to two young people from Thame. A Section 59 is a warning that is given to someone who had been causing vehicle ASB and re-offending can mean the vehicle is seized.
Witness appeals
Criminal Damage, Whites Field, Chinnor – There has been significant damage made to the fencing around the AstroTurf Football Pitches. If you have any information as to how this has happened, please contact Thame Neighbourhood Team via 101.
Criminal Damage, Skate Park, Hill Road Rec , Chinnor– The half pipe skate ramp has been set a light and is now burnt and damaged. If you have any information as to how this has happened, please contact Thame Neighbourhood Team via 101.
What the neighbourhood team have been doing
• On Tuesday 16th January PCSO Di Jackson attended a Community Action Day at Lord Williams Lower School – This was an opportunity to engage with Year 8 students to proactively discuss topics which effect the community we live in, and to help students work through scenarios and action changes.
• On Wednesday 24th January PCSO Di Jackson and PCSO George Twiddy attended a residential support unit for young people with learning difficulties and physical disabilities in Wheatley. Here they provided information to the residents about keeping themselves safe in the community.
• Friday 26th January members of the Thame NHPT alongside other colleagues carried out a rural crime operation throughout the evening. Officers worked with key partners conducting a focused operation to combat recent rural crime activity.
• PCSO Ryan Dollery and PCSO George Twiddy rescued an abandoned puppy from Thornhill Park and Ride on Wednesday 24th January, the puppy was picked up by the dog warden ready to be rehomed once microchipped and bathed.
• On Wednesday January 31st PCSO George Twiddy and PCSO Di Jackson attended ‘Future Fest’ at Lord Williams Lower School, Thame. This was a careers event which gave PCSOs a great opportunity to talk to young people about their career choices and the different career paths we offer at Thames Valley Police.
