24th February 2025

Alice Hopkins, a 26-year-old athlete from Thame, Oxfordshire, has been crowned the new British women's long jump champion. She secured the title with a season's best leap of 6.59 meters during the British Indoor Athletics Championships held in Birmingham in February 2025.

Born on December 30, 1998, Hopkins has been a dedicated member of the Oxford City Athletics Club. Her journey in athletics began at Barley Hill Primary School in Thame, where her talent was first recognized during a year six sports day.

Over the years, she has showcased her versatility by competing in both the long jump and heptathlon events.

In 2018, Hopkins clinched gold in the Under-23 National Championships for the long jump and triumphed in the Senior South of England Heptathlon Championship.

The following year, she retained her Under-23 national long jump title and represented Great Britain at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Gävle, Sweden, finishing seventh in the long jump.

Hopkins made her Great Britain debut at the Indoor Combined Events International Match in Cardiff in January 2019, where she finished sixth in the senior pentathlon with a personal best of 4,080 points.

In 2024, she achieved a personal best long jump of 6.72 meters.

Her recent victory at the British Indoor Athletics Championships not only marks her first national title but also highlights her consistent progress and dedication to the sport. As she continues to push her limits, the athletics community eagerly anticipates her future accomplishments on both national and international stages.
