Priorities
Burglary: May 2018 saw another drop in Burglary Dwelling and non-Dwellings (sheds /outbuildings) in comparison to the same period last year across the Thame sector with 0 crimes to report in every category. The neighbourhood team have continued to work hard promoting Crime Reduction Advice and targeted patrols.
Rural crime: Due to proactive patrols and operations organised by the Thame Neighbourhood Policing Team, reports of rural crime have dramatically fallen since January 2018, which is great news. Rural crime does still remain a priority for the Thame Neighbourhood Team. PCSO Ryan Dollery still commits 50% of his work time to rural crime patrols and engagement which includes frequent visits to farms and rural locations.
You said we did
ASB: You told us you were concerned about anti-social behaviour in and around Thame town at night. The neighbourhood team continue to patrol the town and engage with the youths. Warning letters have been issued to many youths with vehicles advising them to ensure they are not driving in an anti-social manner. Additionally the youths are being advised to keep their music to a minimum when parked up and to be respectful to other members of the public. The Thame neighbourhood team have future operations planned which are aimed at detecting anti-social behaviour and crime in and around the Thame area at night.
On the 12th of May the Thame PCSOs issued a driver with a S59 Warning after witnessing him drive in an anti-social manner on Southern Road in Thame.
Scams Awareness Month – June 2018
Scams Awareness Month 2018 is taking place through June. We want to help you to identify scams and take action by reporting any suspicious activity!
Did you know?
• 1 in 5 people fall victim to fraud every year
• Nearly 50% of all adults have been targeted by fraudsters
• Technology is enabling fraudsters to carry out attacks quicker and employ more complex and methods to remain undetected.
Common types of fraud are:
• Mail fraud: Con artists use fake lotteries and prize draws, get-rich-quick schemes, bogus health cures and pyramid selling to get money from their victims
• Investment fraud: The victim is offered investment opportunities in land, fine wines, share sales or carbon credits which have little or no value
• Romance fraud: The fraudster meets someone on a dating site and gains their trust. They tell their victim they need money for a family emergency or flights over to see them
• Courier fraud: Fraudsters call and trick the victim into handing cards and PIN numbers to a courier on their doorstep
FRAUD IS CRIME ……. REPORT IT! If you believe you have been a victim of fraud report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040, or via their website. You can call the Police on the 101 non-emergency number (or 999 in an emergency).
Thefts from vehicles
We have recently seen a rise in thefts from vehicles parked in beauty spot car parks. When leaving your vehicle unattended please ensure you take all valuables with you and ensure your vehicle is locked even if you are only leaving it for a short time. If you drive a work van please ensure all tools are removed from the van overnight and park it in a well-lit area if possible.
Arrests made/good news
Following a lengthy investigation the crown prosecution service have authorised five charges against a 17 year old male who failed to stop for officers from the Thame neighbourhood team in Postcombe in December 2017. The male has been charged with failing to stop a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a license and also failing to stop at the scene of an RTC. The male is due to appear at Oxford City Magistrates Court on the 12th of June.
What the neighbourhood team have been doing
• On Sunday the 6th of May PCSOS Diane Jackson and Ryan Dollery attended the Music in the Park event in Thame. The event was very popular due to the sunny weather and went ahead with no incidents requiring police assistance.
• PCSO Graham Davey visited the Watlington Rainbow pre-school group earlier this month to explain the role of Police in the Community. It was a really enjoyable event and we would like to thank the all the pupils and teachers for making it such a success.
Emergency Services Day
The Thame neighbourhood team are currently organising an emergency services fun day which will be taking place on the Southern Road recreation ground on Sunday the 29th of July. This event took place last year and was a big success with many residents coming along and having fun with Thames Valley Police, South Central Ambulance Service, South Oxon Fire and rescue service and the RAF. This is a fun family day out where you can engage with different teams from various different strands of the emergency services. Further details of the event will be advertised on social media very soon.

• On Wednesday the 13th of June between midday-1pm PCSO Ryan Dollery will be available to talk to at the Wheatley coffee morning held in the Merry Bells.
• On Wednesday the 20th of June PCSO Diane Jackson will be available to talk to at the Thame Co-Operative café between midday-1pm.
