A strong second half performance saw United take the points against a hard working Marlow side on Saturday.
The only changes from the side beaten at AFC Rushden & Diamonds on Tuesday evening saw James McGowan return at Centre Back, with Luke Ricketts coming in on the left side of midfield.
Playing with a strong wind in the first half, the visitors opened brightly and spurned a couple of half chances before the opening opportunity for United fell to Dan West on 10 minutes, whose deft flick at the near post was well beaten away by Grant in the Marlow goal. Craig Hill then held on well to a shot from distance before a Lynton Goss cross from the right just evaded Ben Connelly at the far post. On 24 minutes West put Lynton Goss through on goal but his shot from the edge of the box was saved by the feet of Grant, with the ball only partially cleared and put back in the box where Tom Ashworth saw an effort deflect wide.
Marlow than came back strongly, and Hill did well to save a powerful effort low to his left before West acrobatically blazed over from a Ben Connelly knock-down on 28 minutes. The remainder of the half saw the visitors enjoy the bulk of possession, but they were unable to translate that possession in to chances and the match went in to half time scoreless.
The second half start in similar vein, but the deadlock was broken on 56 minutes. A clearance from Hill was flicked on by Goss and, with West in space, he coolly slotted the ball wide of Grant. It was 2-0 only five minutes later. Goss this time did well on the wide right, finding space to deliver in to the box where Luke Ricketts was on hand to score from close range.
United continued to press and the goal of the game arrived on 75 minutes. Substitute Liam Tack won the ball on the right and delivered a wonderful ball in to the box that Luke Ricketts met with a first time volley at the far post to rifle the ball wide of Grant and in to the roof of the net. The home side were not finished, with Jamie Essex heading over a Lynton Goss cross on 77 minutes, before the fourth goal arrived on 82 minutes. Adam Morris delivered a corner to the far post where Essex was on hand to head back across goal and in to the far corner.
There were still a couple of chances for United with Ricketts inches away from scoring his third but, in the end, United took the points with a comfortable win.
United make a trip to Hampshire next Saturday when they face Fleet Town.
