Christmas lights switch on - further information

In just 15 days' time, join us from 3:30pm in the town centre for another spectacular community Christmas celebration to ring in the festive season. This year we are introducing some new attractions and bringing back some family favourites.

Entertainment

Get out of the cold and enjoy a fantastic selection of entertainment from local performers in the Town Hall Upper Chamber and the Masonic Hall throughout the evening. Performers include Thame Children's Choir, Stagecoach, TMA Voices, Greatest Hits Choir, Louise Jane Dance Company and Thame Youth Theatre.

On the High Street there will be entertainment courtesy of Thame Players, Thame Concert Band, Thame Music Academy, St Joseph's School orchestra, plus fun crowd entertainment from our event compere!

Don't miss our special guests, the Winter Fairies (pictured right), who will be roaming the event and taking photos with children!

Rides & Attractions

Have you found all 24 snowflakes around the town in the Snowflake Search? You will find plenty of them in our human-sized snow globe, which will be open for you and your family to take a festive selfie in, or have a group photo taken by Paul Nelson.

The Go-Karts and children's rides will be back again this year by popular demand, as will our magical Santa's Grotto. Make sure you tell Santa everything you have on your Christmas list and if you've been good, you may even get an early Christmas present!

Food & Gift Market

With 40 stalls selling the finest crafts, gifts and toys, you will have no trouble crossing things off your Christmas list. You'll also find plenty of hot food and drink, including Mulled Wine served by Thame Lions Club, hot chocolate served by Lord Williams's School Day Nursery, and fresh crepes served by Thame & Montesson Twinning Association. Take a wander around all the stalls and see what else you might discover!

Late Night Shopping

The following shops will be staying open late for the event and have some exclusive offers on: Autoparts, Jack & Alice, Powder, Thame Jewellery Workshop, The Birdcage, Tilly Nilly and Wally's Toy Shop. If you haven't already, make sure you join the Facebook event for the Christmas Shopping Saturday event in Thame, on 2 December, and pick up a guide from the Town Hall or the Town Centre shops - more details in next week's newsletter.

Competitions

Local radio station Red Kite Radio and one of the event sponsors Sportif Citroen will both be running competitions at the event, with prizes including afternoon tea at Haddenham Garden Centre, an MOT and a voucher to House of Spice.

The big switch-on!

Back for the fifth year is the truly spectacular lantern parade in collaboration with Thame Primary Schools that will include beautiful card lanterns crafted by local printer, Windles Group. The Mayor will help our lucky Snowflake Search winner switch on the lights at 7pm! You will then need to warm up your vocal chords for the community singing, accompanied by Thame Concert Band, to round off the evening.

Join us from 3:30pm for an evening of wonderful Christmas entertainment! Download an event programme from www.thametowncouncil.gov.uk/christmas, pick one up from the Town Hall early next week and follow the Facebook page and #ChristmasInThame for the latest updates.

Thank you to our sponsors ASM Auto Recycling, Kubota, Sportif Citroen, Lucy Electric, JJ Plumbing & Heating, 3B Vehicle Hire, Thame & District Housing Association and Windles Group, and to everyone who supports this event.

Death Cafe @ Thame Barns Centre
You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
