5th October 2026
21st Century Thame is proud to announce the launch of a new tree nursery here in Thame. With the support of the International Tree Foundation and funding from the Swire International Trust, it will be one of four community tree nurseries being established across Oxfordshire.
Their aim is to collect native and naturalised tree seeds from the local area and grow them to support our environment.
If you would be interested in volunteering, we would love to hear from you. Please contact them at [email protected] for more information.
Growing local trees is important to because native and naturalised species are better suited to supporting local wildlife, are more resilient to our local climate conditions, and, as the seeds are collected right here on our doorstep, help reduce both costs and travel emissions.
Over the next three years, 21st Century Thame plan to grow 3,000 trees and donate them free of charge to local residents, farms, and community spaces, helping to tackle the effects of climate change and make our local area a little greener. The nursery will be run with the support of volunteers from the community.
If you would like to meet the team behind the nursery, learn more about the project, ask questions, or find out how to get involved, they will be holding a launch event on 12 October at 7:00 pm in The Stables at The James Figg Pub. They will also be out and about collecting and processing seeds this week and regularly during the autumn if you want to come along.
If you would like to attend the launch event, please confirm your attendance by emailing [email protected].
