A Thame care home resident trotted back to his roots as he reunited with his favourite four-legged friends after spending decades away from the stables.
Michael Lindars, who lives at Care UK's Cuttlebrook Hall, on Stock Road, was treated to a heartfelt visit to The Horse Trust near High Wycombe, rekindling his passion for all things equestrian.
92-year-old Michael, a keen show jumper in his youth, was able to reconnect with the animals that once played such a big part in his life.
The visit was made special by The Horse Trust, the oldest equine charity in the world, which is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of horses, ponies and donkeys in the UK, a perfect location for Michael to relive his precious equestrian memories.
Michael said: "They were beautiful! It reminded me of all the years I spent with different horses. It was a lovely surprise!"
The trip was organised as part of Care UK's Wishing Tree initiative, which gives residents the chance to fulfil lifelong dreams or rediscover forgotten passions – whether that means horse riding, enjoying a fish and chip supper, or trying something new.
Alana Corr, Home Manager at Cuttlebrook Hall, said: "Michael often speaks about his love for horses, so we knew we had to take him back to the stables.
"Moving into a care home and getting older shouldn't mean giving up on lifelong passions. Seeing Michael reconnect with something that brought his so much joy in his younger years was incredibly moving. These moments highlight how important it is to support residents in staying connected with their hobbies.
"We'd like to thank The Horse Trust for helping us make Michael's dream a reality – it was truly a day to remember!"
