25th June 2026
Residents with unused tools gathering dust in their sheds or garages have an opportunity to change lives this September. Thame Rotary has officially announced the return of its annual tool collection drive in support of the UK-based charity, Tools for Self-Reliance (TFSR).
The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 5th September 2026, running from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM.
Organizers will be stationed in the car park next to the Citizens Advice Bureau—the familiar location of the town's regular Tuesday Market.
The initiative focuses on a simple but highly effective concept: transforming unwanted equipment into tools of economic independence. Following the collection, Thame Rotary volunteers will personally transport all donations to the main TFSR refurbishment centre in Southampton.
Once there, the tools undergo professional restoration before being shipped to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) across Africa. The refurbished items are distributed completely free of charge alongside dedicated vocational training programs, empowering individuals to build working futures and long-term self-reliance.
What Can You Donate?
The charity is seeking specific, high-quality items that can be successfully refurbished and repurposed. The public is invited to donate:
Sewing Machines: Both manual and electric models.
Hand Tools: Screwdrivers, socket sets, spanners, bench vices, hacksaws, and planes.
Power Tools: 240V electric hand tools.
Garden Tools: Forks and spades, specifically those with wooden handles.
Financial Contributions Welcome: Because transporting the equipment requires resources, volunteers will also accept cash and card donations on-site to help cover the essential costs of van hire and petrol for the weekend.
How to Get Involved
For residents who wish to donate but face mobility or transportation issues, Thame Rotary is offering a limited collection service. Those requiring assistance are advised to coordinate ahead of time by emailing the team at [email protected].
Whether you are clearing out an old workshop or looking to make a direct impact on global poverty from home, your donated tools can help build a sustainable future for someone in need. Clear out your sheds and head down to the Citizens Advice Bureau car park on September 5th.
