Full Council Update, 23 June 2026

25th June 2026

Tuesday’s council meeting was a very warm one, with a number of items being deferred to a later meeting. Deputy Mayor Cllr Wainwright once again chaired the meeting.

The council received a presentation from Oxfordshire County Council and Teleaura, the company they are working with to deliver improved broadband and wireless connectivity within the town centre. Thame has been chosen as a pilot for this new technology, which will avoid having to dig up the high street or harm listed buildings in the town centre. The Town Council supported in principle and subject to relevant permissions, that infrastructure be erected onto the Town Hall to facilitate this project.

Thame Church presented an increasingly urgent and emotive situation of limited burial space in Thame, partly due to burial space not yet being delivered by one of the recent housing developments despite being chased since 2018. It was agreed that options presented be discussed and investigated by the council’s Environment & Asset Committee.

Other matters discussed:

  • Internal and External Audits for 2025/26 were received and approved
  • Response agreed in support, subject to conditions, of planning application P26/S1549/FUL at Chinnor Rugby Football Club relating to floodlights.
  • Approved tender documents relating to a new website.
  • Verbal update on Project Link (Community & Youth Centre) relating to timelines and the main build tender.
  • Appointment of trustee to Thame Welfare Trust on behalf of the council
  • Section 106 Funding – agreed for Public Art legal agreements to be signed, and noted Thames Valley Police have applied for funding for ANPR cameras to help better detect and prevent crime and antisocial behaviour.
  • Councillor questions related to the Cattle Market relocation and town centre street cleaning.

The full minutes will be published on the Town Council’s website once available.
