Thame Town Council is pleased to be supporting this new event ‘Park(ing) Day’ in Thame, which is being hosted by local business edge Urban Design, with support from 21st Century Thame and the Town Council.
Park(ing) Day converts parking spaces into temporary pop-up parks for people instead of spaces for cars - and this year it’s coming to Thame! On Thursday 2 July between 10am and 4pm, a small area outside the Town Hall will be reimagined as ‘parklets’, offering space for community, planting, play and more!
The idea is to imagine what a different version of Thame could look like in the future. After the event, the Council will run a feedback survey to gather thoughts on the event.Park(ing) Day is a global initiative where anyone can create a pop-up public park in a parking space. The idea is to temporarily create a space for people and communities instead of for a single car. Park(ing) Day started in 2005 with a single space in San Francisco and has since grown into an event involving thousands of people across the world. The global Park(ing) Day is on the 18 September 2026 - Thame is a busy place in September, so Thame Park(ing) Day will be held on the 2 July 2026. As the parking spaces in front of the Town Hall will be closed for this event, disabled parking will be relocated to the High Street. Did you know you can park in the car park behind the former Co-Op for 1 hour free? This car park almost always has spaces and gives quick pedestrian access to the high street via the alleyway next to Costa.
