Full Council Update, Tuesday 2 June

4th June 2026

The Deputy Town Mayor, Cllr Wainwright, highlighted the recent success of Taste of Thame and thanked all for their involvement. It was noted that the recent Memorial Service to commemorate the service and sacrifice of the British Armed Forces during Operation TELIC was well attended.  June is expected to be another busy month for community and civic events.

County Councillor and District Reports:
Cllr Gregory, County Councillor and SODC Councillor attended the meeting to highlight matters detailed in the reports.  Councillors raised concerns to Cllr Gregory, regarding overgrown vegetation in gutters and blocked drains; highways matters including potholes on the Tythrop Way and the zebra crossing near Prezzo; reports have been made FixMyStreet.  Cllr Gregory will review and revert.

The Council agreed to approve Officer recommendation on the following matters:

  • Thame Football Partnership lease
  • Green Spaces
  • Pearce Way play area improvements

Further details can be found in the Officer reports and the full minutes (once available).

Strategy for Thame:
The first draft of the “Thame 2050” strategy has been developed. It is currently being reviewed and will be discussed in detail at the next Full Council meeting on 23 June 2026. Residents will have opportunities to engage as plans develop.

Oxfordshire Renewable Energy Policy Consultation was discussed, Councillors to issue responses to the NPCO.

Project Link:

  • The Community & Youth Centre continues to progress, with Officers supporting ongoing communications including videos, updated branding, posters and community engagement, alongside upcoming stakeholder meetings, and fundraising activity.
  • The demolition of the Southern Road changing rooms is scheduled from 29 June (works will take approx. two weeks).  Council will be considering build tenders at the Full Council meeting on 28 July.
  • Funding efforts are ongoing to raise £1.4m, including grant applications and donor outreach.
  • Further updates on timelines and construction will be shared as the project develops.

Members Questions:
A Cllr asked if there was an update on the Banking Hub. Cllr Dyer provided an update. The Council is gathering local evidence through a community questionnaire to support a renewed case, for review.  Further updates to follow.

Death Cafe @ Thame Barns Centre
You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space.
