Full Council Update, Annual Meeting, 12 May 2026

14th May 2026

Cllr Gilbert was re-elected as Town Mayor (for a third term). Members wished him a speedy recovery; whilst he recovers from surgery.

Cllr Wainwright was elected Deputy Mayor, pledging to support the Mayor and represent residents’ voices.

Thanks were given to outgoing Deputy Mayor Cllr Dawson for his support within the community and for his contribution to ThamePride.

Key Decisions

  • Council committees, governance documents, and working groups were approved to be adopted for 2026–2027.
  • Financial Regulations were approved to be adopted, including raising the formal tender threshold to £60,000.

Community Updates

  • ThamePride was formally recognised as an external organisation, represented by Cllr Dawson as the council’s representative.
  • Thanks were extended to Cllr Dyer for establishing Thame Youth Memorial, and for providing support to ensure the ongoing success.  It was noted that Cllr Dyer has resigned as council representative for Thame Youth Memorial Trust, and Cllr Wilde appointed as the replacement representative.

Cricket Club Expansion

  • As landlords of Thame Town Cricket Club, the council agreed in principle that, Thame Town Cricket Club proceed with the project to install a youth training pitch subject to any planning permissions being obtained.

Project Link (Community & Youth Centre) Update

  • A planning application was submitted on 5 May 2026 to enable delivery in two phases. If planning permission is granted, demolition work could begin in July, with main construction targeted to start in September 2026.
  • Tenders for the main construction phase are currently being sought, with quotations due in June.  It is proposed that an Extraordinary Meeting of the Council be held on 28 July 2026 to consider tender outcomes and receive an update on project funding.
  • A public meeting will be planned for August to update residents and answer any questions.
  • Further updates will be shared as the project progresses.

The full minutes will be published on the Town Council’s website once available.

Death Cafe @ Thame Barns Centre
You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
