At the Annual Meeting on Tuesday 12 May, Cllr Andy Gilbert was re-elected as Town Mayor for a third year. Cllr Andy Wainwright was elected as Deputy Mayor (pictured), taking over from Cllr David Dawson.
Town Mayor, Cllr Gilbert, was unable to attend the meeting as he is recovering from surgery and will be out of action for a few weeks, but did send a video which was played at the start of the meeting and said:
“Thank you for voting me back in as Mayor of Thame for a third term. It’s a huge honour for me personally; I don’t take it lightly or for granted. I very much appreciate all your support and guidance. I would like to say a huge thank you to Deputy Mayor, Cllr David Dawson, who’s been doing this job diligently for the last two years with me. I would very much like to commend the proposed Deputy Mayor, Cllr Andy Wainwright. Personally, I’m lucky to have him and he probably saved my life the other week. We, as a council, are lucky to have him and Thame as a town is lucky to have him. I think he will amply fill the role of Deputy Mayor over the year. Looking ahead, the council has set its vision and will continue to strive to be a wellbeing, sustainable town that provides opportunities for all generations.”
The Town Council wishes Cllr Gilbert a speedy recovery. In the absence of the Town Mayor, newly elected Deputy Mayor Cllr Wainwright will be deputising in council meetings and civic events, with support from his fellow councillors.
