Town Council Urges Residents to Take Part in National Consultation on Estate Management Reform

8th January 2026

Residents in Thame are being encouraged to have their say as the Government launches major consultations aimed at reforming private housing estate management companies.

Thame Town Council has highlighted long-standing frustrations faced by homeowners, particularly on newer housing developments and some older estates where land ownership and maintenance responsibilities are unclear. These concerns echo findings from the Competition and Markets Authority, which has raised issues around rising costs, poor service quality and a lack of accountability among some private management companies.

Two Government consultations, launched on 18 December 2025, are now seeking views on how to address these problems. The proposals include extending protections for existing freeholders, giving residents stronger rights to take control of estate management, and introducing measures to prevent similar issues arising in future developments.

The Town Council has welcomed the opportunity for reform and confirmed it will be reviewing the proposals in detail. It is also strongly encouraging residents’ associations and individual homeowners to share their real-life experiences directly with the Government, to help shape any future legislation.

The consultations close on 12 March 2026. Residents can take part through the following consultation documents:
