Every two weeks Thame Hub will be featuring an article on various people in Thame who serve the Thame Community. This is your chance for the people of Thame to find out a little bit more about you or your business.
If you'd like to feature in this article then drop us an email at [email protected].
For our second installment of the series we are talking to Tom Newitt from M.Newitt & Sons to find out a little bit more about him and how he keeps Thame's taste buds tingling with his award winning meat.
When did M.Newitt & Sons first set up home in Thame?
My Father & Mother started our business in 1965 and took over a long established butchery from Mr Bailey. My Grandparents at this time ran an Antique & Removal business and traded from 1810 from the two properties next door until 1970.
What is Thame’s best selling product?
We have a number of top sellers – There are too many to mention but these include Mince steak, Sausages, Home Made Bacon, Dry Aged Steaks, Pies, Sliced Meats, Patties.
What do you sell more of pies, or your famous sausage rolls?
They are about 50/50 but at certain times sausage rolls top the chart – great value and all homemade – no short cuts a meal in themselves.
What’s your favourite dish to make using your products?
I love slow cooked shoulder of lamb - we have an ongoing relationship with John Elklington from Hethe Nr Bicester who selects our Oxfordshire lambs.
What’s your favourite thing about Thame?
The Traditional Market Town with an unspoiled High Street, and proud to be part of it.
Where else can people buy Newitt’s stock - we’ve seen them on the shelves in Asda - Wheatley?
We have a number of Outlets for our deli lines but our shop Thame will always be the Mothership.
Mary Berry recently visited your store - are we allowed to know what she was there for, or is it top secret?
I can’t comment but it’s fair to say I might be styling a goatee …………… Thame’s new Mr Hollywood.
What special Christmas meat have you got on offer this year?
We look forward to the return of our Free Range Bronze Turkey , Free Range Geese, Cockerels & we will be well stocked with our Free Range Pork, Local Lamb, Award Winning Pies, & Dry Aged Beef.
What’s in store for the future for Newitts?
The continuation of the supply of Quality Produce and great service whilst embracing new technology, local deliveries and click and collect and National deliveries via our online shop.
Anything you’d like to say to the people of Thame?
Thank you for their support and we welcome our customers for many years to come. Remember “A Butcher is for life & not just for Christmas”. We encourage customers to shop local, support the High Street and don’t be fooled by Major Multinationals and fancy glossy packaging, with disappointing results.
Newitt’s will always cut you one slice of ham and any amount of product with all the care and attention you require and always here to give a smile advice and comfort when needed, with a touch of marriage guidance if required, we care about our customers regarding them as friends and our staff as family and the future of this lovely town we call home.
Thanks to Tom for letting us interview him, for more information on the M.Newitt & Sons you can visit their website at www.newitt.co.uk or sample some of their delicious meats yourself by heading into the town centre.
