A public consultation event on a proposed Lidl store in Thame took place last night at Thame Town Hall.
Councillor William Wilde, who has represented Thame since May 2025, attended the event and shared details of the proposals. According to Wilde, the plans include:
- A reduction of the standing height of the site by approximately 10 metres.
- A decrease in hard surface area, with new tree plantings and green landscaping aimed at enhancing biodiversity.
- A large swale designed to act as a barrier between the store and green spaces, helping to prevent flooding.
- Solar panels intended to generate between 15 and 30 percent of the store’s energy needs.
- Improved access for local residents, with Lidl citing survey results showing that many currently travel to Princes Risborough or Aylesbury for shopping.
Wilde said he raised questions about travel concerns, and Lidl responded that the store would be within a 15-minute walk or a five-minute cycle of Thame High Street. The retailer expressed confidence that the development would not negatively impact local high street trade.
Wilde also noted from his own discussions with residents that there is demand in the town for an affordable supermarket.
