Weekly Cricket Roundup – 2025 Saturday League Season Comes to a Close! 6/7Sept

10th September 2025

Saturday League cricket has come to an end for 2025! Comfortable in mid-table, the 1st XI hosted already relegated Bicester & North Oxford. Thame were put into bat. The top 6 all got starts around Player of the match Ubaid Kiani, who hit 89* in 229-7 from the 50 overs. Kiani finishes as top scorer in the division with 638 runs! In reply, the visitors reached 112 before losing the first wicket. Skipper Hassam Mushtaq took 2-53 from there, but Bicester & North Oxford were able to reach the target to win by 5 wickets in the penultimate over. It’s a 6th-placed finish in the Home Counties Premier League Division 2 for the 1st XI, with the team not only being able to boast the top batter, but also the top bowler; Dinny Malan took 51 wickets!

In Division 4A, the 2nd XI were due to be away to Tetsworth 2, but the hosts forfeited, giving the 2s 25 points and a 5th-placed finish!

Thame 3rds travelled to Wolverton 2, needing a win to guarantee survival. After being invited to bowl first, Pete Tervet took 3-36, as the innings was in the balance at 60-4. 110 from Ahmad pushed the hosts on. Jeremy Batty spun 2 wickets, as did Alex Fuller late on, but Wolverton were able to post a challenging 245. At 16-3 it wasn’t looking good for Thame, when Jeremy Batty (67) and Captain Nick Fuller (51) combined for a 145 run partnership to give hope. The required rate was always the issue and Thame eventually fell short on a valiant 189-7. Sadly, results elsewhere meant relegation from Division 7A for the 3rd XI.

The 4th XI finished the season at home to Oxenford 3, who won the toss and batted. Young Dan Tilley (4-20) was star with the ball, with Captain Rob Kenny picking up 2, as Oxenford were all out for 182. In reply, Kenny‘s 14 was the top effort in 68 all out. The 4s batting has been a struggle this season, with relegation already confirmed from Division 8A prior to this week. But on the positive side, an enthusiastic crop of youngsters now have a year of adult cricket under their belts, ready for next season!

Cricket is not completely finished for 2025. In the coming weeks, there are several friendlies at Church Meadow, which can be seen on the website calendar!
