Helping you Navigate a Response to Thame's LCWIP Consultation

25th July 2025

What is an LCWIP?

An LCWIP is a plan that identifies walking and cycling routes for local journeys e.g. to school, work and amenities now and in the future and suggests improvements to these routes to support more people to walk, wheel and cycle. Walking, wheeling and cycling for journeys can help us stay healthy, increase happiness and enable us to reconnect with nature.

You can read more information about Oxfordshire County Council's approach to LCWIPs(External link).

We have had a lot of feedback that the consultation for Thame’s LCWIP is confusing as there is so much information to take in. So, we thought we would provide a few suggestions on how to navigate it. https://letstalk.oxfordshire.gov.uk/thame-local-cycling-and-walking-infrastructure-plan

The main document is primarily focused on explaining to you how the work has been carried out. So, if you want details about what data and process, they used to get to their proposals, then do read through it. However, if you would rather just see what they are proposing, we suggest you take the following action.

  1.  Read page 6 & 8 to get an overview of the purpose of the LCWIP, and the process of developing it
  2. Look at the map on page 7 to understand the area being considered. Please note, cycleways or footpaths to other areas, such as Haddenham or Long Crendon are NOT being considered as part of this process. It is focused on travel within Thame. However, you may want to comment on the fact that Moreton is not included – despite being part of Thame.
  3. Skip to page 66 to see the proposal for the Routes that they believe should be prioritised for active travel around Thame. Consider if you agree with them. Are there any you would change?
  4. Skip to page 80 and review from here to page 83 to see the locations that they have identified issues.
  5. Open the Appendix Document. This shows a list of improvements they are suggesting that relate to the maps on page 82-83
  6. If you have identified an issue that you think needs to be addressed to support Active Travel in Thame, then use the ‘Location’ column to scroll through the document to find the street it is on and see if it has been identified to your satisfaction. If not, feedback what you want to see.

If you would like to read through the feedback Thame Town Council is submitting, then we have a working document available for you to review this is available here.
