Ofcom extends local station Red Kite Radio’s broadcasting licence for a further five years

Ofcom, the UK’s broadcasting regulator, has renewed Red Kite Radio’s licence to broadcast for a further five years from the end of June.

Community radio stations are typically granted licences for a term of five years, which means that the new licence will enable the station to continue broadcasting until June 2027.

Red Kite Radio began broadcasting to the people of Thame, Haddenham, Princes Risborough, Chinnor and the surrounding villages in June 2017 under a licence granted by Ofcom.

Broadcasts are continuous around the clock.  Programmes are varied, including a mix of classic hits and recent releases along with local news stories and detailed information about forthcoming local events.  Listeners can tune in to Red Kite Radio 24 hours a day, 365 days a year on 107.2 FM, on a smart speaker, on Tune-In, or online at redkiteradio.com

All of the management, engineers and presenters are unpaid volunteers from the local area (around a couple of dozen in total) – all with different strengths and experience, which makes the station one of the most diverse in the area.

Director and presenter Howard Bond said, “We have a great team of volunteers at Red Kite Radio.  They give their time freely presenting shows, reading the news and providing technical support.  The five-year extension to our licence is recognition of the tremendous work by our volunteers in keeping the station on the air.”

Station manager Chris Long added “Our team has grown considerably over the past five years, and with that growth has come a variety of specialist music programmes featuring music to suit all tastes.  We are proud to be able to continue serving the residents of Thame, Haddenham and the villages for the next five years… and beyond!”
