On Monday 22nd November over 25 guests came to the Players Theatre for a ‘welcome back’ reception. The event was the first of its kind following the months of lockdown, and since the theatre re-opened in July.
The guests enjoyed hearing about developments, current and planned. Amongst those attending were the Mayor of Thame, Cllr Paul Cowell; the new Thame Town Clerk, Mandy Sturdy; the chair of South Oxfordshire District Council, David Bretherton; and several councillors from both Thame Town Council and South Oxfordshire District Council. Business guests included representatives from Richardsons Chartered Accountants, Lightfoots Solicitors, and Pearson Insurance Services. Other community organisations represented were Thame Museum, Thame Cinema For All, and Thame Radio, which launches on New Year’s Eve.
Cllrs David Bretherton and Pieter-Paul Barker of SODC had a demonstration of the theatre’s new talkback equipment, majority-funded by a grant within the SODC Councillor Community Grant Scheme, which for the first time allows clear and connected communication between all points of the theatre: stage, props, projection backstage, lights, sound, and streaming booth.
On behalf of Thame Players, Tony Long thanked the guests for their support, without which many of the improvements that ensure the theatre stays up to date as a modern entertainment venue for audiences in Thame and district would not be possible.
