Whether you’re a fan of the successful TV series, Midsomer Murders, or simply a lover of the beautiful villages and towns in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire (collectively known as Midsomer County), a new book, which has just been published, will act as the perfect guide to your enjoyment of Midsomer County and its delightful locations.
A Midsomer Day Out by Tony Long, the organiser of Midsomer Tours of Thame, takes the traveller on a journey through the historic town of Thame and some of the quintessentially English villages used in the filming of Midsomer Murders. It provides a detailed itinerary for visiting over 60 Midsomer filming locations including a map guide to find each one, together with commentaries and photographs of each location taken by the author. The book also includes a history of Midsomer Murders, theglobally acclaimed TV phenomenon which has been running since 1997, information about its origins and the actors appearing in it, and a complete list of all 128 episodes. There are also brief synopses of those episodes which feature filming locations described in the book. It’s estimated that one billion people have seen Midsomer Murders and it has been viewed in over 200 countries.
A Midsomer Day Out also offers fascinating insights into the history of churches, pubs and other buildings used in the filming of Midsomer Murders, from Brill Windmill, St Mary’s Church Sydenham and Thame Town Hall (aka Causton Town Hall), to The Lions of Bledlow pub, Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway and Worminghall Village Hall.
