Co-op Group CEO Phil Ponsonby has confirmed that the board has agreed to sell the Thame site to new owners in an email to its members.
"Following a full strategic review of its Food Retail Business, Co-op Midcounties identified a small number of stores which in their current format do not fit with the long-term strategy of the Society. This inlcudes the Thame store.
Following a meeting of the Society's Main Board on 26 May 2020 and continuing our commitment to keeping you, our members informed, I can advise you that the board have now approved an offer to sell the site to new owners and the legal process to progress the sale is now underway. The store continues to trade as normal at the current time.
The Society is in the process of identifying a suitable alternative site for a Food Retail store in Thame and it is intended that the Travel and Funeral branches will be relocated within the town centre or the surrounding area. We will continue to provide colleagues, members and customers with updates as this moves forward."
