Impact of COVID19 Emergency
Many of the regular volunteers are over 70 and have had to withdraw temporarily from much of the ‘frontline’ work that they do. However, the appeal for extra help through social media has had a great effect and they have had an overwhelming number of new younger volunteers offer to help them. This has created some challenges in suddenly managing the induction of so many new people but they are delighted to have their practical support in this way. It is really making a big difference in helping them to keep the operation going at a time when demand is increasing.
Community Larder
In partnership with SOFEA this started last week with 14 members already. Because of the emergency restrictions they are obviously not able to run this in the way that was planned so they are delivering special food boxes to Larder members on Thursday afternoons. This membership is open to everyone and is not means tested and they would like to encourage many more people to join the scheme. Because of the current situation it is being offered free at the moment. Eventually there will be a small charge but members will get much more back in terms of food value than their sub costs.
