A Gypsy Christian Festival is taking place in Thame this week.
This morning hundreds of caravans descended onto a field near the Rugby Club.
The summer gathering, which has taken place at a different location every year since the 1950s, regularly attracts hostility.
The festival was held in nearby Quainton in 2012 and was slammed after reports of car crashes, public urination and trespassing.
A statement from the Thame Agricultural Association is below:
"Full police matter, we (The Thame Agricultural Association) were contacted by organisers of the Darlington Christian Fellowship Group for an above board annual meeting and contracts were signed and toilets booked & paid for all as we thought above board, BUT the showground has been invaded by approx 5000 believed to be Gypsies, they had booked the showground from now till Thursday paid for in full, it's a total nightmare they are cutting down the trees on the showground it's carnage up there, and yes the police are on site in force."
