On the 8 February, local singer Sara Kalic will be holding a classical concert at St Mary’s Church in Thame to raise money for Lymphoma Action, the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting anyone affected by the condition. Titled ‘Songs of Loss and Love’, soprano Sara will be joined for the evening by pianist Duncan Aspden to perform a range of classical songs. Sara hopes that the concert will also help to raise awareness of lymphoma, the fifth most common cancer in the UK. It is a cause close to her heart, after supporting her husband through his treatment for Burkitt’s lymphoma after he was diagnosed with the condition in his early thirties.
“It was a huge shock, and a very difficult time for us all” says Sara, “we are blessed that he has now been in remission for almost seven years and although he is still physically recovering from the after effects of what happened to him, he is now a father to two beautiful children and leading a relatively normal life. We are looking forward to the concert, and by donating some of our proceeds to Lymphoma Action, we are offering our support to those affected by lymphoma who may be going through an experience similar to our own”
“We are really grateful to Sara and her family for their support” adds Sarah Thorn, Community and Partnerships Manager at Lymphoma Action. “Every 27 minutes one of us is diagnosed with lymphoma, and it is actually the most common cancer in young adults. Through funds raised by people like Sara we can continue to make sure everyone affected by the condition receives the best possible information, support, treatment and care so that no one has to face lymphoma alone.”
‘Songs of Loss and Love’ will be starting at 7.30pm, and doors open at 6.45pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance at https://www.wegottickets.com/event/491287 or on the door on the evening of the concert.
