Please see below a thank you letter to the people of Thame from our Sinaia friends:
A journey into history and culture by Felicia Mirza
Thame-Sinaia. Friendship and collaboration holding hands through art and culture. A moment in time that we will always remember :a moment of meeting our friends; a moment of making new friends; a moment of visiting new places; a moment of history and architecture; a moment of experiencing new things. And all these wonderful moments took place during TAL, October, 2019.
We were honoured to be invited to Thame. My colleague , Mrs.Octavia Floricica , mentioned one important aspect of our visit. I would like to quote below her words from the opening of our presentation on Queen Marie of Romania:
“We came to Thame to bring our thanks to the country which gave to us Queen Marie. We would like to show you what Queen Marie meant for Romania and the Romanian people. Words will never be enough to express our love and gratitude for the Princess of Edinburgh who became Queen of Romania.
Her royal bloodline and her education made Marie, Princess of Edinburgh, the brave queen , generous as spring rain, valiant as a medieval knight and as good as gold.
She had devoted her life, her strength and love to her adopted country and this is the essence of her last will:
“I bless you ,my beloved Romania ,the country of my joys and sorrows ,beautiful country which lived in my heart and whose paths I knew all. Beautiful country I lived to see reunified, beautiful country whose destiny I lived to see fulfilled, may you be forever rich, forever great, forever honourable. Stand proud among other nations ,be decent, loved and competent. You might remember me because I loved you deeply, my love was powerful ,impetuous and later it became very patient”.
Mrs .Octavia Floricica documented herself and based her presentation on ‘Memoirs of Queen Marie’; Queen Marie ‘s last wish by Tatiana Niculescu , ‘A Queen in war’ by Ion Bulei and Guy Gauthier –‘Missy ,Queen of Romania to mention only a few of the important documents she studied , in order to have to have a real perspective upon our Queen.
The presentation of Queen Marie included three other important chapters in her life:
Marie’s visit to North America which took place in 1926 –the material was prepared by our ASPE members , Ene brothers from Portland-USA .The unique ,valuable and memorable photos of Queen Marie that were part of a small exhibition, were kindly offered by Ene brothers courtsey of Maryhill Museum.
We entered the land of fairytales with Queen Marie and the audience enjoyed ‘A Christmas tale’,a tale in which wonderful things happen on Christmas Eve, when love, faith and
hope can work wonders .At the end of the story you realise that no matter how much pain and sorrow you carry in your heart ,if you keep believing and pray, your hopes and wishes are fulfilled.
And,who knows?Maybe C.S.Lewis was right:”Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairytales again”.
Last but not least Mrs Cecilia Francu made us proud of our national costumes : she was dressed in a traditional costume from Arges county and she talked about the Romanian blouse, motifs ,symbols and Queen Marie and the traditional Romanian costume, things the audience appreciated and seemed very much interested in.
Our last day in Thame ended with a Quiz. We tried our best and got the Smarties. It was a great evening. Lovely people, nice atmosphere and a range of interesting questions: Animals in Art and Literature; Ten questions and 55 answers; Musical classics ; Which Year? were some of the categories I enjoyed.
The few days spent in Thame were full of events, of wonderful dinners, of lovely talks. We had wonderful hosts and wonderful people willing to show us around and help us.
We were fortunate to meet the Mayor , Mrs. Ann Midwinter. It was an honour and we will always treasure those unique moments .
I would like to take this opportunity and thank Thame-Sinaia Friendship Association ,all the lovely people we met during our stay in Thame and TAL organizers.
Thank you all for welcoming us with so much love and friendship, kindness and support.
