Giant killers Thame at it again…

Massive result for Thame Rangers last night as they progressed to the semi final of the League Cup beating South Mids Premier side Berkhamsted.

 

It was a huge task for Thame as Berko were fielding former pro footballers and even one Irish international, they were firm favourites but the lads rose to the task and for large parts of the game played the better football.

 

Thame started well first half and were making great inroads particularly down the left hand side as Almond, Isaac, Delderz and Schmidt were linking up well, however it was an unlikely scorer who popped up to head home the first as local Thame lad Thomas Gibbons nodded home from close range after a great Almond cross.

 

The goal however seemed to wake up Berko and they got back into the game, after some heavy pressure they equalised when the Berko midfielder was given too much space and time on the edge of the box to finish clinically past Ashmead.

 

It wasn’t long before Berko added a second, slightly sloppy defending from a throw in allowed the winger to cross and evading all players was met by the opposite winger 3 yards out to slot home.

 

2-1 at half time but Thame had played well and created chances, no one felt defeated.

 

Second half and Thame continued to try to break down the Berko defence. The game was now far more even and both teams had chances until another Almond free kick was headed home by Jammers for 2-2.

 

The game was end to end until the ref blew up for penalties, Berko went first and scored, Almond, Schmidt, Delderfield all scored before a Berko pen was saved well by Ashmead. Brown the skipper stepped up and confidently tucked the ball home for a 4-3 lead, Berko had to score there final pen to stay in the game, however the player blazed it over and Thame celebrated a fantastic victory.

 

Rangers now go into the semi final Vs Langford away next Tuesday with a massive chance to create history and get into the final.
