What a great football season our Town is having with Thame United and Thame Rangers really putting Thame on the map and having fantastic seasons. However they aren’t the only local sides really promoting the great talent we have in the area.
Earlier in the season we posted a couple of updates from the Aylesbury and District League, where Haddenham (and Reserves), Long Crendon (and Reserves) and Tetsworth (and Reserves) all compete. It really wasn’t a great start for any of our sides and looked that a mid table finish may be all that any of our sides could really shout about.
Haddenham United we are told have been struggling slightly, and so far their two sides sit 9th (out of 10) in the ADL Premier Division and 8th (out of 9) in Division One, winning a combined amount of 6 league games between them this season. They also have released on the ADL website that they are looking for Manager’s for both their sides for next season. See here if that’s of interest to you.
Long Crendon however have had a complete turn-around since we last covered their fortunes, going on a ten league game winning run, scoring 33 goals in the process. Their manager Gerald Reilly had this to say about the potential title-winning performance against rivals New Zealand FC at the weekend
“I’m pleased with the progress made over our 3 seasons and to be sitting top of the ADL Premiership. I think we have shocked quite a few of the more established Premier sides with our young squad, playing fast, free-flowing football. Rising from second bottom of the division to 11 points clear from second, the title is in our hands. But we must maintain our focus and believe, with a return match against the fancied Champions New Zealand”.
Crendon’s reserve team have had a good season too, and were unbeaten after 11 games. Unfortunately for them they came up against Tetsworth FC first team, two weeks in a row, who now sit at the top of ADL Division 2 after a 5-1 and 6-1 victory.
Tetsworth’s season started similarly to Crendon first team, inconsistent and positive results weren’t easy to find. However, 8 league wins in a row, beating all the top 8 in the process and scoring 38 goals on their way has seen them top the table by 5 points, with two games left to play. This leaves Crendon Reserves third, 6 points behind but with a game in hand.
Tetsworth Reserves have had a great first season together, and find themselves in third place of Division 3, with one game remaining – although they are due to host fourth placed Aylesbury Dynamos in their last fixture who could overtake them if the result ends up an away win.
Well done to our local sides who continue to field not only a winning team, but any team at all, with so many local teams folding over the recent years.
