Please see the below message from James Benfield, Police Sergeant based at Princes Risborough.
“We have had a report of courier fraud in Askett, Princes Risborough today.
The scam is centred around a cold call from a male purporting to be a Detective Inspector from the Metropolitan Police. He will ask for assistance in an undercover Operation as they believe the victim’s bank are handing out counterfeit notes. They ask victims to withdraw cash and then a courier will collect. They then set up a password with the victim for the courier to use when they arrive. The caller will stress to the victim not to tell anyone about it.
Please be vigilant!
Police will NEVER ask you to withdraw cash from your bank account.
Hang up the call and contact Police straight away. Scammers sometimes stay on the line, so it’s good practice to phone the police on a different line.
Please pass this message to elderly friends/family/neighbours.
