Chinnor endured a day to forget at the weekend

CHINNOR endured a day to forget as hosts Old Elthamians secured a 20-8 victory in wet and windy conditions.

The Thame-based outfit were never really at the races as the home side deservedly ran out winners in a below-par National League 1 contest.

Danny Barnes’s 75th-minute try proved only a consolation for Chinnor as another of their longest-serving players Kieran Goss was denied a victory on his 100th appearance for the club.

Elthamians took the lead on 20 minutes thanks to Tom White’s penalty, but the visitors quickly levelled at 3-3 through Laurence May.

The hosts dominated territory in the first half and headed into the break 10-3 in front when Mike Kovacic dived over, White converting.

Chinnor would have been confident of overturning the deficit with the wind at their backs in the second period.

But White converted Nathan Morris’s try and kicked another penalty to extend Elthamians’ lead to 17 points after 64 minutes.

Chinnor were given a glimmer of hope with ten minutes to go when White was sin-binned following a high tackle on May.

They made the extra man count when Barnes dived over for an unconverted try, but they were unable to take advantage of some late territory to claim at least a losing bonus point.
