Does your child want to learn a musical instrument but you can’t afford the lessons?
If so then Thame Kidz Music Scholarship could be for you!
This brand new scheme has been set up by Thame based Rosemary Fletcher. Rosemary is looking for applicants to join Thame Kidz Music Scholarship and take advantage of free music lessons. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to access the world of music, and learn an instrument that they may not have been able to before.
Thame Kidz Music Scholarship would like to invite your child to apply for free music lessons if they are:
- Not already entitled to free music lessons
- Don’t already have parents/guardians who can already comfortably pay for music lessons themselves
Rosemary said: “The idea came to me a few months ago. I suddenly remembered a time around 35 years ago when I was a single mum with four young children, struggling to make ends meet. When one day a gentleman appeared at my door asking if he could come in to speak to me. He turned out to be the Chief Education Officer and informed me that my eldest daughter had informed the school that she would love French Horn lessons, however she couldn’t as her mum was very poor so couldn’t afford them. How embarrassing!! But also true! There was a social fund in Thame at that time, and this made it possible for my daughter to be funded for a year in order to have the lessons.
“35 years on, many things have happened in my life; I had my own business for 20+ years. Having retired a couple of years ago and last year losing both my mother and my brother, I decided this year that it’s time to give something back to society, as although I am not wealthy, neither am I that struggling mum of years ago. That is how I decided on providing a music scholarship for less privileged children who would not normally be able to access the world of music.”
