The countdown is on for SO Charitable Lottery’s first draw this week as good causes continue to sign up to benefit from the exciting new scheme in South Oxfordshire.
The first draw will take place on Saturday (28 April) online via the SO Charitable Lottery website.
The community lottery was launched last month by South Oxfordshire District Council to raise funds for local charities and voluntary groups. So far, 53 good causes have successfully applied to become beneficiaries of the lottery.
From each £1 ticket bought, 60p goes to good causes and the local community. The rest of the money goes to the prize fund and running costs – the council does not receive any of the proceeds.
Cllr Lynn Lloyd, cabinet member with responsibility for the lottery, said: “It’s the last few days before the first draw and there’s a jackpot of £25,000 that could be won. I’d like to encourage everyone in South Oxfordshire to get behind the lottery – it’s a fun way of raising money within the local community, for the community.
“Residents can choose which local cause they support when they purchase tickets or for their money to go into a general fund that will be used to support the voluntary sector in South Oxfordshire. I’d like to wish everyone who has bought a ticket so far the best of luck for Saturday’s draw.”
Draws will take place weekly every Saturday following the first draw and there is a one in 50 chance of winning a prize.

The first council-run community lottery was set up by Aylesbury Vale District Council in November 2015 and raises around £85,000 annually for good causes. South Oxfordshire is using the same external lottery management operator, Gatherwell Ltd, to run its lottery.
From every £1 ticket sold:
• 50p goes to registered good causes and 10p into a general fund, which will support the voluntary sector in South Oxfordshire
• 20p to the prize fund
• 17p to the external lottery management operator
• 3p to VAT
